In many organizations, the role of
telecom has been inherited as part of an existing job role. Most organizations do
not have clear documentation about the equipment and configurations.
Often multiple vendors are involved. Many legacy devices are still part
of the solution because no one knows what they are for.
To compound this problem, with the
demise of Nortel, many companies are looking to find a replacement of
their existing phone systems. This typically involves duplicating the
existing environment by over-provisioning the new system with costly
analogue ports to support the same quantities of analogue equipment.

A proper assessment of your phone system will help with:
- Reducing warranty support costs
- Eliminate unnecessary equipment. For example, many organizations have a significant
amount of analog services for modems and fax machines that are
not used anymore.
- Identifying System Quantities
- Allow for accurate inventory when looking for new technology
- Eliminate paying for over-capacity on new system
acquisitions
- Risk Management
- Identify points of failure in the system architecture
- Identify equipment that is no longer supported by the manufacturers
- Provide accurate records to assist in disaster recovery
This assessment can be even more crucial when
multiple sites are involved.
